Adam Nuru

Adam Nuru is a Nigerian banker, entrepreneur, Managing Director, and CEO of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB). He was born on the 31st of August and hails from Kwara State, Nigeria.

Education

Adam Nuru obtained a degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and also holds a Master’ degree from the Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Career

He has over 20 years of experience covering Corporate Finance, Consumer Banking, Public Sector, Treasury, Commercial/Retail Banking, and Human Resources Management. Mr. Nuru began his career at the Nigerian Agricultural & Cooperative Bank. He also worked at Oceanic Bank and FSB International Bank (Now Fidelity Bank), where he headed Public Sector, later Retail Banking (Lagos), and eventually Human Resources Management Group. He joined FCMB in 2005 as Head of Enterprise Management overseeing Human Resources, Administration & Logistics, and Branch Development.

He joined FinBank Plc in 2009 as Executive Director, North Nigeria, and rejoined FCMB as Executive Director; Business Development Abuja & North Nigeria, following the merger of FCMB and FinBank in 2012. In 2017 he was appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of FCMB after the ten years tenure of Ladi Balogun (the former MD) expired.

Awards & Recognition

In 2019, Adam Nuru was awarded the CEO of the year by Finnovex West Africa Awards. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants and also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management and Institute of Economist of Nigeria.

Personal Life

He is married to Hauwa Nuru and their union is blessed with kids.

Controversies

In 2020, Adam Nuru came under the spotlight after the arrest of former acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu. He was interrogated for sending N573 million to the account of Prophet Omale, Ibrahim Magu’s pastor. He, however, defended himself, stating that the money was transferred in error.

In December 2020, he was in the center of a major controversy which led to 200 petitions being signed, compelling CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) and FCMB to dismiss Adam Nuru on ethical grounds (marriage scandal)”. Adam Nuru was in a sexual relationship with one of his workers Moyo Thomas, a woman married to Tunde Thomas. Their affair led to two kids, which Tunde Thomas believed was his kids, not until Moyo Thomas resigned and traveled to the US with the kids and informed him that the kids aren’t his biological kids.

On finding out that he isn’t the biological father of the kids, Tunde Thomas died weeks later of depression (Cardiac Arrest).
