Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo is a Masters Degree holder in Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). He also attended a Junior Division 48/89 and Senior Course 26 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff Colege, Jaji.
Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo attended a Sub-Technical course and Officers Long course at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA.
Career
On the 24th of September, 1984, he was enlisted into the Nigerian Navy as a member of Regular Course 36 and four years later, on the 24th of September 1988, he was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant.
Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo was the director of Procurement at the Defence Space Administration and with a specialization in Intelligence, he is an Underwater Warfare Specialist.
He is a fellow of the National Defence College South Africa, a Fellow of the Certified Institute of Shipping, a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM.
On the 26th of January, 2021, following the resignation of service chiefs, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, making him the 23rd person to hold that office in the Nigerian Navy.
