Air-Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao is a Nigerian Air Force Officer and the current Chief of Air Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He was born on the 14th of September, 1965, and hails from Oshogbo, Osun state but was born and raised in Enugu State. He and his parents relocated from Enugu State to Osun State then finally to Kaduna State.
Education
He had his primary education from 1971 to 1977 at Nuhu Bamalli Primary School in Zaria. For his secondary education, he enrolled in Command Day Secondary School Kakuri where he completed his secondary school education from 1977 to 1982.
From 1994 to 1996, he attended the Federal College of Freshwater and Fisheries Technology (FCFFT), New Bussa. He also attended the University of Madras India from 2002 – 2003, Kaduna Polytechnic from 2005 – 2006, and National Defence University China from 2012 – 2013.
Career
On completion of his secondary school education, on the 19th of January, 1984, he was enlisted into the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) as a member of the 35 NDA Regular Course cadet and on the 20th of December, 1986 he was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force as Pilot Officer.
Between 1993 and 2004, he was a Trainee and Squadron Pilot at the Nigerian Air Force Unit 99 ACTG Kainji. In 2004, he was transferred to 301 Flying Training School (FTS) Kaduna as the Instructor Pilot/Squadron Pilot. In 2008 he was deployed to serve as the Air Assistance to Chief of Air Staff.
From 2010 to 2012, Air-Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao was the Deputy Defence Adviser to the Nigerian High Commission London as well as the acting Defence Adviser. In 2013 he was the Assistant Director of Operation at the Nigerian Air Force and in 2015 was the Air Component Commander of Operation Zaman Lafiya / Lafiya Dole (North East operation).
Air-Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao was appointed the Acting Deputy Theater Commander (Air Ops) for operation Lafia Dole in the fight against Boko Haram in 2016. He was the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command (TAC) at the Nigerian Air Force. He was also the Commandant Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Lagos and Director of Policy at the Nigerian Air Force Head Quarters.
On the 26th of January, 2021, he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force.
