Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu who is popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest is a Nigerian show promoter, Business magnate, Entertainer, brand influencer, and celebrity barman. He was once the General Manager & Executive Director of Cubana Group (Cubana Leisure Outfits), a group of companies that includes Cubana nightclubs, Rolex hotels, Grand Cubana hotels, Pablo Cubana, Opium Cubana, and Crave Cubana.

He is the second child of his parents and he was born on the 2nd of April, 1982, in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo state where he spent the early part of his childhood.

Education

Cubana Chief Priest was once a student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri. He is also a Doctor of Science in Event and Luxury Hospitality Management, and he obtained the degree recently from European American University.

Early Life & Career

Cubana Chief Priest wasn’t born into wealth and had to work so hard to get all he has now. His mother always wanted him to be a Catholic Priest. At a young age, he was disowned by his father and left Imo State where he was born, and relocated to Aba to learn Shoemaking. He kept on mastering the art of shoemaking and monetizing it efficiently and continued the business even while he was in school. His first million Naira was made via the shoemaking business while he was still a student at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, Cubana Chief Priest isn’t the founder or owner/co-owner of Cubana Group but he is the public face of the company & General Manager of the group. He was just a petty trader in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, and his life turned around completely after Lucky Bruno Ndukwe (an Executive Director, Cubana Group) a.k.a Cubana Prime minister linked him to Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), the CEO, Chairman of Cubana Group.

Obinna Iyiegbu noticed the outgoing, loyal, and charismatic personality of Cubana Chief Priest and decided to bring him along and make him the face of the company as he himself is quite humble, enigmatic, and reserved and won’t be a perfect public figure for a company like Cubana Group which demands a really charismatic person.

Right from his childhood days, Cubana Chief Priest has always loved music and wanted to go into music but was unable to achieve this dream due to his voice and mother tongue intervention but he decided to leverage the opportunity given to him by Obi Cubana to become a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry. He still plans on becoming an artist and is currently recording and preparing an EP.

He is a brand influencer for Moët & Hennessy and an ambassador for Bullet Energy Drink. He is acquainted with a lot of Nigerian musicians like Davido, Tekno, Burna Boy, Patoranking, and many others but seems to be very close to Davido. According to him, he gained popularity after Davido and Chioma partied at Cubana Club in Owerri on the 19th of August, 2018 and he has since remained grateful to Davido and they are both close friends now.

In August 2020, Cubana Chief Priest and his boss at the time, Obi Cubana fell out. The incident started on the 27th of August 2020 when Cubana Chief Priest physically assaulted one of the female workers at Cubana Nightclub in Owerri which he manages at the time. The victim (@Rukkyjib) stated that Chief Priest punched her in the face and he had to be stopped by the club’s customers from attacking her even further. The lady went on to make a police case. She wrote;

Cubana Chief Priest formally known as Paschal Okechukwu assaulted me when I was working at Cubana, Owerri on Saturday 23rd August 2020. Witnesses at the scene saw him punch me in the face and after doing so, Chief Priest was held back by paying customers from attacking me any further. I have not taken the assault lightly and have made a report to get him arrested. Swipe for hospital report and police report. Say No to violence against women, Women’s lives MATTER.

When the matter got to Obi Cubana, he was angry and immediately called Chief Priest, Chief Priest got provoked and allegedly poured drink on his Boss “Obi Cubana” and walked out the door.

Obi Cubana unfollowed him on Instagram and that was the end of Chief Priest at Cubana Group. Chief Priest went on to start his own nightclub, Club Xhrine in Owerri in December 2020.

Family

He is currently married to @_deangels and has two kids, Donald (Born December 30) and Obi (Born April 11). His mother is late while his father is still alive. He once took to Instagram to complain about the fact that his mother who believed in him from day one is now late and can’t reap the fruit of her labor while his father who disowned him at a tender age is now the one enjoying his wealth.

He also ranted online about his family members depending on him solely without wanting to work or build wealth for themselves.

Controversies

Cubana Chief Priest and Mercy BB Naija Beef

Cubana Chief priest supported Mercy during her time in the Big Brother Naija house and also did giveaways for people to vote for her and in the end, she came out victorious. After she left the BBNaija house, Mercy announced that she had signed a deal to represent the Moet and Chandon brand in Africa, and there were speculations that the Cubana Chief Priest made the deal happen. Moet and Chandon revealed that Mercy Eke was not legally signed by the company as an ambassador and some overzealous investigators immediately got to work and discovered some shocking secrets.

More investigations showed that the Cubana chief priest only curated the ambassadorial deal in order to prevent Mercy from signing deals with other alcoholic beverage brands. This was because his club, Cubana, had an existing deal with Moet and Chandon and he needed Mercy to help him make more sales for the alcoholic beverage. Instead of informing Mercy and looping her into the deal, he allegedly deceived her into signing a non-existing deal. Mercy’s team, after further investigation, reportedly discovered his plans and arranged for her to be signed into proper management; hence, her announcement that she had joined the Upfront and Personal management company owned by renowned public relations extraordinaire, Paul Okoye.

Despite the findings, Mercy still appeared at his club for free but things took a different turn after Cubana wanted her to appear for another free show, and Mercy & her team demanded payment and he got really annoyed and started recalling how he supported her in the house but Mercy’s team insisted that he pay N1.5 million or she won’t be present. Cubana got even angrier and promised not to have anything to do with Mercy’s brand again and went on to delete all her pictures on his Instagram page and blocked her. They have since reconciled and are now on good terms.

Police Detainment

In June 2020, he was invited to the Police Force headquarters annex, Lagos, and was eventually detained by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit for alleged misuse of police escorts and weapons and his source of wealth was also being questioned.

In April 2022, Cubana Chief Priest was arrested again at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. He was apprehended by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was trailed and monitored by a team of EFCC detectives at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and they got information that he would be flying out of Abuja after the match, and with the intel, they picked him up at the airport the next day. Prior to the arrest, he had been invited by the commission but he refused to honor the invitations.
