Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba who was popularly known as Mohbad was a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on the 8th of June 1996 in Ketu, Lagos State, Nigeria, and died on the 12th of September, 2023 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Career

Mohbad was born and raised in Lagos where he completed his primary and secondary education. Right from a young age, he wanted to become a singer but in 2016 he started music professionally.

He started sampling his talent on Instagram by sharing top-notch freestyle videos online. He made covers of songs like Kizz Daniel ‘Fvck You’, ‘Who Dey’ and many others. He eventually started gaining traction and slowly building a fanbase for himself up until December 31, 2019, when Naira Marley signed him to Marlian Music alongside Zinoleesky, C Blvck, and Fabian and he is still under the label to this day.

He got his biggest hit record in December 2020 on the record “KPK (Ko Por Ke) where he was featured by the award-winning music producer, Rexxie.

On the 18th of December 2020, he released his debut music project, Light (EP). He continued his shine in 2021 where he got a hit record with his song “Feel Good”.

On the 30th of June, 2023, Mohbad released his sophomore EP titled ‘Blessed’.

Personal Life

The rapper kept a lot to himself and didn’t really let the public into his family and some areas of his personal life.

Unknown to many, Mohbad was a married man. He was married to his longtime girlfriend, Omawunmi, whom he had been dating for over ten years and they remained together until his death.

Mohbad and Omawunmi have a son named Light (See video of his son here) who was just five months old at the time of his death.

Controversies

Mohbad was no stranger to controversy. In February 2023, Mohbad alongside Zinoleesky and four others were arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for possession of illegal substances including MDMA & cannabis at their home in Lekki, Lagos. Witnesses disclosed that the search was conducted without a search warrant and that the Marlian singers were maltreated during the ordeal. They were all released later on.

On the 5th of October, 2022, Mohbad called out his former record label boss, Naira Marley for ordering people to beat him p after he told his label boss that he wanted another manager to handle his business and music affairs.

Death

On the 12th of September, 2023, the talented rapper passed on. The news of his death left fans and fellow celebrities in shock and sadness. The exact details surrounding his death haven’t been made public yet.
