Tsukani Maluleke is a South African Chartered Accountant. She was born on the 14th of June, 1976 and she is the South African auditor-general.

She was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, making her the first woman to hold the position.

She was born in Soshanguve in the city of Pretoria, South Africa where she spent her childhood before her family eventually relocated to Johannesburg. She has three other siblings, two sisters, and a brother and she is the first child.

At age nine, she started working at her family-owned supermarket.

Education

Tsakani Maluleke attended St. Andrew’s School for Girls in Senderwood, Johannesburg where she had her high school education.

After that, she enrolled at the University of Cape Town to study Accountancy and graduated in 1996. The following year, in 1997, she obtained a postgraduate diploma in Accountancy.

Tsakani also has a post-graduate diploma in Development and Public Management.

Career

Tsakani Maluleke accountancy career has spanned over 20 years. She has worked in the public sectors as well as private sectors. She is a non-executive chairperson of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

In 2012, she joined the Office of the Auditor-General of South Africa and she was eventually made the national leader for audit services.

She was appointed the Deputy Auditor-general of South Africa in 2014. In 2018, she received the BMF Black Leadership Award.

The term of the former Auditor-General of South Africa, Kimi Makwetu was to expire on the 30th of November, 2020, and a replacement was needed prior to the time of his tenure expiry. Tsukani Maluleke was recommended by the Parliament Ad-hoc Committee on Appointments in October 2020 to replace Kimi. Her appointment was confirmed and she became the first-ever female South African Auditor-General. Her tenure as the AG lasts for seven years.

Tsakani Maluleke is the mother of two daughters, she has divorced twice and she is currently unmarried.

Her Father, George Maluleke was a lawyer and a judge while her sister, Basani Maluleke is the CEO of African Bank.
