The following days after that I had expected him to call me to his office to explain what he had meant by what he said but when he hadn’t called me, I began to anticipate a letter instead.

Whenever Bimpe comes to my office, I curiously asked her if he had sent her to give me a note which had always been a negative response and when she began to get suspicious about why I wanted a note from the boss refrained myself from asking her about it.

I spent a whole week at peace in my new work, I was quite happy but with a persistent apprehension for the return of the older man.

He had returned the following week, he had walked into the office with a smile when greeted Bimbo but when he saw me his smile vanished like It was snuffed out of his face, and he gave me a deadly look.

His gaze was as hard as steel and if looks could kill, his gaze would have wiped me out of the surface of the earth.

My heart was pounding so loudly that I could hear it ring in my ear, I stood up from my desk, walked unsteadily towards him and welcomed him with a wry smile.

He did not respond to my salutation and had walked briskly to his office, his shoulders hitting mine when he tried to walk around me.

I looked at Bimbo for a while and noticed there were questions she wanted to ask with the expression on her face which clearly says “what was that about?” But I refused to oblige her and walked back to my office.

The next weeks were hell on earth for me at work, the man who I found out was called Mr Arinze was a devil and was the torment sent to me, at least that’s how I felt.

I tried to avoid him as possible even though that was next to impossible, as we worked on the same floor and his office was facing mine.

One day he asked me to prepare a cold tea for him, I particularly remember him complaining about the heat even though his office was cold because of the air conditioner.

I ran as quickly as I could to make the tea and soon came rushing to place it on his table, he looked at me and took the teacup and was putting it in his mouth when I turned to leave his office. He called me back and the next thing he did leave me stunned.

I saw him taking a sip of the tea and the next moment he threw the cup at me splattering the tea all over my face down to my dress. The teacup shattered as soon as it landed on the floor.

“What the hell is that?” He bellowed
“What is what?” I asked as calm as I could

“I asked for a hot tea, stupid, do you want to poison me?” He asked in infuriated “Sir, you asked for a cold tea” I replied

“So you mean your boss is telling an untruth now right?” He said walking towards me in a threatening way

“I didn’t mean it, Sir, I thought I heard you say you wanted a cold tea” I replied taking a step back

“So with being stupid, you have also become deaf?” He asked irritatedly

“I’m sorry sir, I’ll go make a hot one immediately and come clear the shattered teacup,” I said hurriedly, attempting to walk out to do what I had said

“You know you are bold aren’t you? I told you not to take this job and you did” he muttered “Sir?”

“Listen for as long as you are in this office with me I’ll make life a living hell to you, you will die slowly, you’ll want to scream on top of your lungs for help but nobody will save you” he threatened

“Sir!” I murmured, my heart pounding so loudly.
“And that is a promise, now get the hell out of my office and clear this shit up”

I ran hastily out of his office to do what he asked, my head spinning so much that I thought I would swoon.

My mind kept saying “Get the hell out of here” but I couldn’t. It’s either I get the hell out and leave my parents house or stay and die slow.

I wanted to scream so loudly and fervently pray for God to help me. I didn’t scream but I did pray silently. Read the next chapter (14) Here!
