I ran hastily down the stairs in David’s house, I heard Bimpe laughter booming in the room as I opened the door.

I thought David would run after me, as soon as I reached the gate I turned out almost unconsciously hoping to find him behind me but there was no one.

I hopped on a tricycle and told him my address and rode to Becky’s place.

I paid my fare trying to hold my tears as much as I can, and ran to the door and knocked loudly. I heard Becky’s voice from within asking who it was and I shouted back.

She opened the door quickly with questions in her eyes, I couldn’t be strong any longer, tears trickled down my eyes.

She pulled me inside and asked what was wrong, I told her all that happened amidst tears and she held me to her as I cried all over her, soaking her top but she didn’t mind at all.

She told me to pour it all out, as she caresses my back and soothes me.

I stayed at Becky’s house for a week because I couldn’t bring myself to go home to explain what had happened to my parents nor could I go to work.

The whole time I brooded and was miserable, this troubled Becky and she wanted to stay with me all day but I implored her to go to work.

I called my parents to tell them I was staying at Becky’s place for a while and Becky had gone to my house to get my clothes. My dad called me to tell me that David had asked someone to come get the car he bought for them, I told my dad to allow the person take it and that I would come home to explain everything.

A month after I was finally able to step outside again, I went home to talk to my parents and told them all that had transpired between David and me, they had been compassionate and supportive.

I sternly cautioned them not to talk about anything with David’s father regarding the failed relationship.

I told them I was moving to Becky’s house for a while till I finally decided on the next phase of my life, they had understood and gave me their blessings.

I packed my stuff into a car I hired and moved them to Becky’s house, while arranging them, I remembered I had left some of my stuff at the company and told the cabman to drive me there.

I walked into the company with my head up high and walked to Bimpe’s desk, she had been surprised to see but I ensured my face was void of emotions. I wasted no time telling her what I had come for and she quickly went to get them from the safe.

She brought my things to me, it had been arranged in two different boxes and handed it to me, as I made to move out of the building, a figure I could remember anywhere appeared in the doorway leading to the inner office.

It was Mr Arinze, I was so surprised to see him so much so that one of the boxes I held dropped from my hands. I quickly took it from the floor and recollected everything that happened and shook my head in disbelief as I made to walk out.

It was all a plan, I thought of the dismissal, the fight, and everything else then it all made sense to me, it was all a ploy to get me.

I put my things in the trunk of the waiting cab, and sat at the front seat beside the driver, as we drove out of the premises, I looked back and then laughed bitterly, tears threatened to come down but I repressed it. Read the next chapter (19) Here!
