I woke up as early as I could, putting on my ironed professional outfit as quickly as I could with heels to shoes to match.
I ran to hail a bus, took a seat, hoping for an uneventful journey to the interview venue.

I had a smooth ride to the venue, alighted, and walked into the waiting room.
There were other people already sitting who were waiting to be interviewed as well, I said a little hello to the lady I sat beside and checked my watch, saw I was right on time, and waited.

A lot of other interviewees came in to join us, each taking various seats while some others who could not fi seat, stood and we all waited for the interview to commence
It took about thirty minutes before a lady, who seems to be the secretary came in to address us

“Good morning, everyone, welcome to Delight Radio station, I am Miss Tolu and we are delighted to have you all here”

“Thanks for your patience, the panels are all on the seat and your interviews will be starting now”

“The first person should please go and all the best to you all”
We all said our “Thank You’s” as the secretary went to her desk to sit.

The interview began and people got interviewed as quickly as possible, some came out of the office delighted while others had fear in their eyes.

I was frightened a bit as well and I couldn’t wait till it was over, I was deep in thought when someone touched me and said “You are next”
I walked with much confidence as I could muster into the office presenting my Curriculum Vitae and Cover letter.

A remarkably handsome man asked me to take a seat which I did immediately

Another said ” So Miss Mary, I see that you finished school with a remarkable degree, a first-class, wow that’s amazing”

“Thank you” I replied
“I see that you served in a school,” said the dashing young man

“Yes I did”
“Do you care to tell me, why is that? With your remarkable degree in communications, I felt you should have served in a place worthy in your field”

“Yeah, I wanted to serve in a school, I always loved kids and arts is my first love, so teaching what I love felt like something I wanted to explore before doing something related to my field”

“Well, your father said you are very fluent and has a lot of charisma which I think is something we need in a radio station,” Said the young man again

As soon as he said that I saw the older man’s face squeeze in a frown.
” And with the fact that you were active during your camp joining the broadcast unit”

“I think you have a lot in your favour for this role Miss Mary” “Thank you, sir”

After several questions about the roles and some current affairs amongst other things, he said finally

“Miss Mary, we’ll contact you on your success or failure regarding this role”

“Do check your mail often to know how you did” “We’ll be in touch”

“Okay sir, Thank you very much”

I walked out of the office, as soon as I got out of the building I let out a loud sigh of relief

“It’s over,” I mumbled to myself and tried to hail a bus going back to my house when a hand stopped me.

It was the older man of the panel in the office
“Hi sir, is there a problem?” I inquired curiously
” The job, I had it in mind for my son who just finished school”

“Sir?” I asked confused

“I see that you have had your father put some good work for you to get this job”

“N n n n no sir” I stammered

“Damn that boy for graduating with a second class lower, if not you won’t even have a chance over him” he cussed.

“Whatever the reply you get, I know the chairman likes you, and he might give you the job, reject the offer do you hear?” He instructed

“Sir?” I said confused

” Do not even try to accept it or you will have me to deal with, I’ll rip you off and crush you, till you suffocate on the job”

I couldn’t find myself too astounded to say anything as he walked back into the building furious, never looking back.

I continued to stare in surprise at his rear for about five minutes before I regained my senses, then I entered a bus going home. Read the next chapter (10) Here!
