Music Collaborations That Nigerians Will Kill To Have

Collaborations have always being a vital part of the music industry and the advantages that come with it is numerous. Artists get to show their versatility in collaborations and also tap into the fanbase of the artist they work with. Awarding bodies in Nigeria recognizes the importance of collaborations and have included the ‘Best Collaboration’ category in their award ceremonies.

Even tho some of these artists have attempted to work together before or have even hit the studio together, we still don’t have any official collaboration between them that have been released.

Here are some music collaborations that Nigerians will kill to have.

(1) Davido & Wizkid

Unarguably the most anticipated collaboration, not just in Nigeria but in the whole of Africa. They are both referred to as the ‘Messi & Ronaldo’ of the Nigerian music industry as they have continued to give each other a chase for most awards and hit songs. Even tho their fans continue to pitch them against each other, they still crave a collaboration so badly.

In July 2015, Davido took to Twitter to inform fans that their joint single will be out the next month but it is five years now as it still hasn’t dropped. It shows that both of them have hit the studio together and we will keep our fingers crossed until we finally get one from them and it will definitely be worth the wait.

If they ever get to put out a song together anytime in the future, irrespective of the quality of the song, it will definitely do numbers.

(2) Burna Boy & Koffee

The craving for a Burna Boy & Koffee collaboration started when Koffee did a cover of Burna Boy’s record ‘Ye’ in the 1xtra Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1xtra. Koffee delivered way beyond expectation on the cover and music fans easily recognized that a joint song between them will definitely be a hit record and will never miss.

They’ve both been to the studio together and recorded but the song hasn’t been released yet.

(3) Yemi Alade & Tiwa Savage

Yemi Alade & Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade are the biggest female singers in Nigeria and just like in every sector of the entertainment industry, the top performers are always being compared to each other and people tend to imagine the magic they will create if they get to work together and that is exactly the case of Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade.

It is no news that Nigerian female singers hardly work together and prefer working with male colleagues in the industry but fans really wish Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade make an exception, set their differences, and work together.

(4) Wizkid & Simi

Simi and Wizkid

Simi is one female artist in Nigeria that have worked with way too many male colleagues in the industry. She has worked with Davido on the song ‘Maga To Mugu’, worked with Mr Eazi, Falz, 2Baba, Cobhams Asuquo, Adekunle Gold, L.A.X, BOJ, Ladipoe, Naira Marley, Patoranking, BOJ, and so many others. In each of these collaborations, Simi delivered properly irrespective of the difference in their style of music and fans can’t seem to imagine what a Simi and Wizkid collabo will sound like.

They are definitely in good terms as Wizkid came in as a surprise guest at her concert in London in 2018 and she was moved to tears. We really hope they hit the studio together sometime and deliver magic.

(5) Rema & Wizkid

Wizkid & Rema

There is a lot of similarities that Rema and Wizkid share. Apart from the fact that they somewhat sound alike, their entry into the music industry is so similar.

Wizkid got into the industry when a lot of older people were dominating the industry and he was the kid in the industry at the time, he came in with a different sound entirely, a different swag, a lot of younger ones were quick to pick him as their role models in terms of dressing and all. Rema is currently repeating the same thing but this time, for a way younger generation. Akon even sited their similarities in an interview with Genius, He said Rema reminded him of Wizkid.

Fans definitely can’t wait for a Rema and Wizkid collaboration and for sure the song will slap.

(6) Rudeboy & Mr P/ A P-Square Song

Mr P & Rudeboy | P-Square

There is no such thing as ‘Too Much Of P-Square Songs’ because you can’t enough of the duo when they were together.

Despite the numerous songs and studio albums that made when they were still together, music fans still want more and want the brothers to set aside their differences and return as a group or maybe even work together as Mr. P and Rudeboy.

(8) Don Jazzy & D’banj

Don Jazzy & D'banj

They’ve had a lot of collaborations in the past but all that is fast becoming a history that Nigerians appreciate but know they won’t be getting again anytime soon.

They have since moved on, own record labels of their own but the synergy between these two back then was unmatchable and a new collaboration between them again will gladden the hearts of music lovers in Nigeria.
