Love is a beautiful thing and when you finally find that person with whom you’re willing to spend the rest of your life, you just can’t wait to tell the whole world and bring in your friends and family to celebrate with you on your special day.
Some celebrities who have always been in the eyes of the public decided to deviate from the norm and instead of having a loud wedding that is covered by the media, their wedding was completely a secret.
Information about some of these weddings broke out initially as rumors until they were finally confirmed to be true. Here are Nigerian celebrities who had a secret wedding.
(1) Davido & Chioma
Davido being on this list comes as a surprise given that he lives a very open life and hardly keeps things away from his fans.
His relationship with his wife Chioma has always been public and he even made a hit song ‘Assurance’ for her, with Chioma starring in the music video.
When Davido proposed to her, he posted photos of their engagement on Instagram and they even had a son together, Ifeanyi.
Tragedy struck on the 1st of November, 2022, when they lost their child Ifeanyi who died by drowning in a swimming pool. Davido and Chioma went off social media for a long time after the incident and during that period of privacy, they got married privately.
Davido eventually returned online, released his fourth studio album, Timeless, and also revealed that he is now married. Davido and Chioma later welcomed twins in October 2023. However, since the death of her first son, Ifeanyi, Chioma has stayed away from social media.
(2) Mr Eazi & Temi Otedola
Mr Eazi & Temi Otedola are one celebrity couple a lot of Nigerians admire because of how they handle their relationship and the love they have for themselves.
Mr Eazi met Temi Otedola through her elder sister, DJ Cuppy and since then, they’ve been very open about their relationship.
When Mr Eazi proposed to her in April 2022, they shared the intimate moment with their fans online but when they got married, no one knew about it until much later.
Mr Eazi confirmed in an interview that he is now married and that they got married in Venice, Italy.
(3) Adekunle Gold & Simi
Amongst all the celebrities on the list, the ability of Simi & Adekunle Gold to keep their wedding private is one that is applaudable as it is quite difficult because both partners are public figures and they got married at a time when internet usage is rampant and blogs are always encroaching into the lives of celebrities.
Simi & Adekunle Gold have been close for quite a long time now, back then some fans argued that they were just friends & Simi was dating Falz while some were of the opinion that they were lovers. Both Simi & Adekunle Gold didn’t come out publicly to deny or accept these claims until rumors surfaced in January 2019 that Adekunle Gold and Simi were getting married.
In the end, the rumors were true as they both tied the knot in a private wedding on the 9th of January, 2019 at a private beach in Lagos.
They both met on Facebook and at the time, Simi didn’t know Adekunle Gold to be a singer as he was well known to be the king of Photoshop. Their union is blessed with a child, Adejare Kosoke.
(4) Johnny Drille and Rima Tahini
Johnny Drille’s marital status came as a shock to his fans and music lovers. Johnny Drille who is known for releasing a song for the singles on Valentine’s Day sparked dating rumors with Nigerian actress, Tomi Ojo after several videos of them together surfaced online.
During that same period, Johnny Drille released the music video for his hit song ‘Believe Me’ with Tomi Ojo starring as his love interest in the music video, this made their dating rumor gain more credibility until Johnny Drille’s record label boss, Don Jazzy surprised everyone when he revealed that Johnny Drille was married to Rima Tahini, while celebrating the birthday of Johnny Drille’s wife on Instagram.
Don Jazzy wrote;
“With all the amazing love songs that @johnnydrille has written, it’s only right that he bags one of the most amazing women I have met to share #Thebestpart of his life. I am so happy for both of you. May GOD continue to bless your union. Happy birthday again @rimouuune.”
Johnny Drille later confirmed that truly he is married and that they got married privately. His wife, Rima Tahini is the Director of Artiste and Repertoire (A&R) at Mavin Records and she starred in the music video of The Best Part by Johnny Drille.
In December 2023, Johnny Drille and Rima welcomed their first child.

(5) Funke Akindele & JJC Skillz
Award-winning Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele decided to give love and marriage another try after her previous marriage with Kehinde Oloyede crashed in July 2013.
In January 2016 news of the love affair between Funke Akindele and Nigerian producer and singer, JJC Skillz rocked the internet. Friends close to the couple confirmed the love affair between them and stated that they had chosen to keep their relationship private at the time.
On the 27th of August, 2016, they had a secret wedding in London. A lot of fans got to know that they were married after she added ‘Bello’ to her name on her social media handles. The couple later revealed that they didn’t want to be in the spotlight as they both have been married before and wouldn’t want to be in the spotlight again for the same reason.
Their marriage hit rock bottom in 2022 and they are now divorced.
(6) Regina Daniels & Ned Nwoko
Regina Daniels was a subject of ridicule when news broke out that she was getting married to someone as old as her father and for a lot of Nigerians, she was just getting married to him for the money. I initially discarded the news as rumors because there was no proof or photo from their wedding at the time on the internet.
Her mother faced the heat from the media and a lot of Nigerians as many thought she forced her daughter into the marriage. After a while, vacation videos and pictures of them together surfaced online and it was a confirmation of the love affair between them. Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko granted Daddy Freeze an interview during their holiday and they both addressed a lot of speculations about their marriage. According to Ned Nwoko, they fell in love and got married three weeks after they met and he didn’t get to know Regina through her mother.
They recently welcomed a child together even tho Ned Nwoko has kids already from his other wives.
(7) D’banj & Lineo Didi Kilgrow
The Koko master tied the knot with his fiance, Lineo Didi Kilgrow on the 2nd of June, 2016 in a secret wedding party.
The wedding between the music star and Lineo took place at the family home of D’banj in Maryland, Lagos and only nuclear family members of both D’banj and Didi were in attendance. The wedding guests weren’t even aware that they were attending a wedding as it was previously announced that the event was to mark the birthday of D’banj’s Dad.
When D’banj was asked why he decided to keep his wedding private, he said “I decided to keep my marriage to Didi a secret because based on experience, relationships like this get mixed with media hypes and speculations and then it becomes complicated”.
(8) Toyin Abraham & Kolawole Ajeyemi
In 2013, Toyin Abraham got married to Adeniyi Johnson. In August 2015, the actress filed for divorce, they had a messy divorce that was finalized in 2018.
Despite the messy divorce, Toyin Abraham didn’t give up on love and eventually found love once with actor Kolawole Ajeyemi. They got married privately, despite being a very popular actress, till date no one knows when and how they got married or even when they got engaged.
(9) Di’ja & Rotimi
Information from unconfirmed sources stated that the Mavin Record songstress got married in December 2015 and Di’ja didn’t come out to verify the reports or refute them.
The singer eventually opened up on the 1st of July, 2016 stating that she got married months ago and now has a son with her husband.
In an interview with LIB (Linda Ikeji Blog), Di’ja opened up about her secret wedding. She said
“It was very intimate and it was also in my hometown, Kaduna, so it’s kind of hard to get people to come over there and then Kaduna is not as ‘Noisy’ as Lagos.
“So anything like that could be probably called low-key. I just don’t translate them into being posted on my page. And I guess in the ‘Post-it’ ‘Tweet it’ world; you almost kind of look abnormal if you don’t
“But it’s not like am going out of my way not to, I guess it’s just not in my character to do it all the time, but I’m also getting better at my Instagram. ”
(10) Mercy Aigbe & Kazim Adeoti
Mercy Aigbe first got married in 2013 to Lanre Gentry, a Nigerian hotelier. Her first marriage wasn’t a secret wedding and they had two children. However, her first marriage hit rock bottom in 2017 when she publicly accused him of domestic violence and they got divorced eventually.
Mercy Aigbe found love again and privately married Kazim Adeoti, popularly known as Adekaz. She converted to her husband’s religion, Islam, and changed her name to Hajiya Meena.
(11) Toke Makinwa & Maje Ayida
Multi-media personality, Toke Makinwa secretly got married to Maje Ayida on the 15th of January, 2014 after a 2-year relationship together.
The marriage crashed in 2016 and Toke has since remained single.
(12) Joseph Yobo & Adaeze Igwe
Adaeze Igwe who hails from Awka-Ekiti, a small Anambra State in the south-eastern part of Nigeria, was crowned the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2008 and she went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss World 2008 that took place in South Africa.
In 2009, she met the former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo and after a brief courtship, they got married in 2009 in what can be described as an uncommon wedding.
The wedding ceremony was held in Jos, Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria and it was held at midnight. One would expect a beauty Queen like Adaeze and Joseph Yobo, one of the hottest Nigerian footballers at the time, to have a loud and royal wedding but it wasn’t so.
They currently have three kids, two boys and a girl and their union is still strong and healthy.
(13) Stella Damascus & Daniel Ademinokan
Award-winning Nigerian actress, Stella Damascus who currently resides in the UK got married to her lover, Daniel Ademinokan and there was no public display of love or wedding announcement until three years later when Daniel Ademonikan took to Instagram on the 14th of February, 2014 to make their marriage public.
In 1999, when Stella was 21 years old, she got married to her first husband Jaiye Aboderin, and their union was blessed with two daughters before he died in 2005. Stella got married again in 2007 to Emeka Nzeribe and seven months after the wedding, they parted ways.
In 2020, Stella Damascus and Daniel Ademinokan got separated and they eventually got divorced.
(14) Uche Jombo & Kenney Rodriguez
After her failed relationship with Nigerian footballer, Ikechukwu Uche, Nollywood actress Uche Jombo fell in love again and got married to Kenny Rodriguez on the 16th of May, 2012 in a private beach wedding ceremony in Puerto Rico.
The actress keeps her family off the spotlight and even when there were rumors of infidelity and issues in her marriage, she came out to ask bloggers and journalists to stay off her family.
(15) Agbani Darego & Ishaya Danjuma
Nigerian model and beauty queen, Agbani Darego who was crowned Miss World in 2001 got married to Ishaya Danjuma, the son of Billionaire Businessman & Politician, Theophilus Danjuma.
The wedding which took place in Morocco on the 8th of April, 2017 was a quiet one and had only 35 invited guests in attendance.
(16) Regina Askia & Rudolph Williams
Veteran Nollywood actress, Regina Askia got married to an American, Rudolph Williams.
He flew from the U.S. to Lagos for the wedding and the public got to know about her marriage one week later. She has since relocated to the US, where she practices as a registered nurse.
