Top Ten Most Handsome Nollywood Actors

The Nollywood industry has not always been in the state it is today; it has over the years undergone several changes and transformations due to one factor or the other. In fact, the Nollywood industry can be said to have experienced a “Checkered History” i.e a history characterized by both good and bad parts. This article will first do a cursory review of the Nollywood industry before looking at the Top Ten Most Handsome Nigerian Actors. This will be done because these actors do not exist in a vacuum, hence a cursory review of the Nollywood industry will suffice.

The Nigerian film industry, popularly known as Nollywood has a long history dated back to the 19th century. The development of the industry is characterized by four notable eras viz: the Colonial era, Golden age, Video Film era, and the Emerging New Nigerian Cinema. Of these four eras, the most striking and significant to the growth of the industry are the video film era and the emerging New Nigerian Cinema. The Video Film era was birthed in the late 1990s, the period was defined by a ban on the importation of foreign movies, celluloid films also, film making equipment was on the high side. Astute actors, writers, and producers quickly discovered a less expensive format such as VHS ( Video Home System) which was already in vogue in the recording of family and cultural events. The first Nollywood films were however made using VHS. In the year 1992, the Igbo producer Kenneth Nnebue launched the home-to-video movie, Living in Bondage. This, however, marked a milestone in the evolution of the industry.

In the mid-2000s, the Video Film Era experienced a decline hence the birth of the New Nigerian Cinema. The New Nigerian Cinema, can be said to be defined with a high level of professionalism and quality productions as a result of improved technologies that were used in the production of movies. In the year 2013, the Nollywood industry was ranked third as the most valuable film industry in the world with Bollywood in India ranking second and Hollywood in the United State topping the list as the first in the world. The tales of the Nollywood industry cuts across African Nations and even the diaspora particularly the Unites States due to the fact that its contents are easily relatable. They range from common African folktales, African cosmologies, and worldviews, to some religious values like Islam Christianity, and African traditional Worship. The most notable location used for most products is Enugu, Asaba, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Benin City. The genres that are often featured in the industry are Comedy, Tragedy, and Romance with the use of  Standard English and a mix of Pidgin English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. Having done a review of the Nollywood industry let us look at the Top Ten Most Handsome Nigerian Actors in the Industry.

Top Ten Most Handsome Actors in Nigeria

It is noteworthy to mention that almost all Nigerian actors are handsome irrespective of the color of their skin, their physic, and so on. Going by the words of Herman Melville,  “I am, as I am, whether hideous or handsome, depending upon who is made judge”; this means that who one may consider as handsome may be considered as unhandsome by others depending on the person’s perspective. Therefore, those actors in the Nollywood industry that are often on the lips of every Nigerians as handsome in 2021 made it into our list of Top Ten Most Handsome Nigerian Actors. Frederick Nnaemeka Leonard is one of the most handsome, talented, and leading actors in the Nollywood industry. He hails from Anambra State Nigeria. The exact date of his birth is a little bit shrouded in controversy, therefore,  in an interview with Thisday Newspaper, he publicly said “I am not up to 40 yet. I don’t know how bloggers came up with this figure. I am in my late thirties” this was a statement he made on the 2nd of March 2019. Meaning he does not want his actual date of birth been disclosed. Hence, we know he was born on the 1 May as evident in his birthday celebrations but the exact year is what he did not make public may be due to some personal reasons.

Frederick is a successful producer, model, businessman, and CEO CineWorx Entertainment. He made his first presence in the Nollywood industry in 2001 and immediately after that, he took a break to complete his higher education. Upon completion in the year 2008 where he bagged a degree in Biochemistry from the Kaduna State Polytechnic, he returned fully into the movie industry and for the first time took a lead role in the movie title Indian Doctor in 2008 and some people prefer to refer to it as his debut. Over the years, however, he has featured in different movies and took several roles. These movies include the blockbuster movie void (2019), a better family, discontent, reunion, and so on. His acting ingenuity has also earned him some awards which include:  Golden Icon Academy Award as the Best Supporting Actor in 2014 and the City People Award as the Best Supporting Actor of the Year (English) in 2016.

Frederick can be described as a tall, very handsome light in complexion man with a very high sense of fashion which is characterized by simplicity. He confessed this was instilled in him by the effort of his late mother. The above qualities actually earned him the title ladies’ delight in the Nollywood industry. Also, in his dialogue on stage, he is real in his pronunciation with a little flavor of Nigerian English. He is not found guilty of hypercorrection. In fact, he is amazing on the stage.

In an interview with Thisday Newspaper, he said so many things about his personal life. He stated that there is a particular void in his life which he does not believe anyone can fill in his lifetime. This is the death of his mother. He further said that he is not a party type, he does not fancy drinking or smoking and keeps a close circle of friends and family.

Mike Godson was born on October 10, 1985, in Kano State but he hails from Imo state Nigeria. Right from the outset, he has nursed the ambition of becoming an actor, as fate will have it, after his secondary education he proceeded to the University of Jos where he bagged a degree in Theatre and Communication Arts. This, however,  made things easier for him because he had already garnered the nitty-gritty of the necessary skillsets needed to be successful as an actor in the Nollywood industry from his course of study. He ventured into acting in the year 2001 but rose into top billing in the year 2006 after taking a lead role in a hit movie titled 7 books of Moses.

As a handsome young actor in the Nollywood industry, Mike has eyes for beautiful women. Although, he is average in height but very good looking and this has earned him the title ‘ladies man’. Since his exploit in the hit movie 7 books of Moses, he has featured in different movies. They include Secret Riches, Sincerely Mine, The prince and the Slave, Ultimate Sacrifice, and so on. He hails from Abia State  Nigeria, born in Port Harcourt on the 10th of April 1986, once lived in Kano, and currently resides in Lagos. He attended Federal College of Daura in Kastina State, gained a Diploma in Mass Communication from Calabar Polytechnic, and proceeded to study Law at the University of Calabar.

Ekubo’s debut was a minor role in Lancelot Oduduwa Imaseuen’s Sinner in the House in the year  2005. His first major role was in the movie ‘Ladies men’ a role he confessed he was not prepared for but been a man that seizes his moment could not reject but accept the role. However, everything turned out to be successful for him.

Alexx Ekubo developed a flair for the entertainment industry right from his childhood and took part in drama in church and school. When he proceeded to the higher institution he was also among organizers of departmental shows, award nights, and the likes. In 2010 he emerged the first runner-up as Mr. Nigeria in the Mr. Nigeria’s contest. He has featured in several movies like AY’s Crib, Tinsel, Married to the Game, and so on. When the name Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) is mentioned the first mental picture that is often created by the hearer is that dark and handsome Nollywood actor with a charming smile. Indeed, he can be described as an ever-smiling man. His great sense of fashion and facial look further projects his personality as being gentle in nature. He is a producer, philanthropist, director, and politician who was one time the commissioner of culture and tourism in Delta State Nigeria. He was birthed in Aladja Community of Udu kingdom Warri in Delta State on the 6th of July 1961.

He started his academic career at Midwest College, Warri, and Anglican Grammar School after which he proceeded to the University of Benin and studied Theater Arts and graduated in 1983. Some years later, he proceeded to study law at the University of Lagos and graduated in 2014. Mofe started his acting career by performing in the drama club in his secondary days. He has starred in over 100 movies but notable among these is the first movie he wrote and produced titled Out of Bonds, then -Hostages, Scores to Settle, Diamond Ring, Freedom, and so on. He was born September 25th of 1976 in Libreville Gaborn but completed his Secondary education in FGC Kwali Abuja and studied philosophy at the University of Jos. Jim Iyke is one of the foremost actors in the New Nigeria Cinema era of the Nollywood industry growth who began his career in the year 2001.

He is one of the richest actors in the Nollywood industry and has starred in over 150 movies. In 2007 he started his movie production company called Untamed Production. He is number 5 on the Most Handsome Nigerian Actors on our list.

Ikechuchwu Mitchel Ogbonna popularly known as IK Ogbonna in the Nollywood industry can be described as a fair-skinned-tall adonis whose handsomeness has earned a vantage in modeling and Nollywood industry over the years. Recently, he signed a multi-million naira deal with Raakkan perfume Limited in Dubai, as the face of the company.

IK Ogbonna is of Igbo descent born in Abia State, Nigeria. He was born on the 11 of January 1984 into a family of four of which he is the second born. He started and completed his Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary education in Jos Plateau State Nigeria. He studied Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Jos and started his modeling career at this same institution. Modeling can be said to be the springboard of his acting career;  however, in his University days,  he emerged as the face of a magazine that came out every year in the University of Jos back then as the Top 20 Most Fine Boys in the University. Afterward, he became famous and enjoyed fame hence he considered modeling as viable and went into it fully.

In 2005 he moved to Lagos, Nigeria and enlisted for the Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) where he was a housemate he won the show and this could be said to have opened doors for him in the Nollywood industry. He made his debut in the movie titled LoveLorn produced by Rukky Sanda in 2013 since then he has featured in over 100 movies. He has equally worn several awards which include: Best New Act to Watch at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award, Best Actor in Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Award and Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Award.

Kunle Remi as popularly know by movie lovers and in the Nollywood industry is a multi-talented actor, model, businessman, host, entrepreneur, and farmer, and above all a handsome young man. He was born in Gboko of Benue state on the 18th of October 1988. He completed both his primary and secondary education in Ibadan;  After which he proceeded to study fisheries and wildlife at the University of Ibadan. In the year 2010, the actor won the 7th edition of the Gulder Ultimate search, this brought him into the limelight. He, however, deferred his admission to study acting at the New York Film Academy Los Angeles and graduated in 2014.

Right from the outset, Kunle Remi had always wanted to be an actor and an entertainer. He started entertainment back in his University days at the University of Ibadan as a dancer. He had a group called ‘Fusion’ which was one of the top dancing groups back then in the Uni from the year (2007-08). He ventured into acting in the year 2011 after winning the 7th edition of Gulder Ultimate Search and since then has starred in diverse romantic movies which are Falling, Sobi’s Mystic, Tiwa Baggage, and the likes. Back to his modeling career, he has modeled for several brands like MTN, Diamond Bank, Zain Nigerian, DSTV e.t.c.

Bolanle Ninalowo is a highborn, born on May 7, 1980, into the influential Ninalowo family in Ikorodu, Lagos State Nigeria. He spent the first 15 years of his life in Nigeria and then moved to Chicago USA, where he lived and studied accounting at the University of Devry and Marketing at Keller Graduate School of management. Upon completion, he took a job in an accounting Company called General Growth Properties in Chicago before fully moving down to Nigeria.

Aside from the fact that Ninalowo is tall, huge and handsome, his alluring physic and accent keep fans, actors/actresses and producers clinging. In fact, his physic and accent are his selling points in the industry. However, he is one of the most sought after actors in the Nollywood industry currently.  His success in recent years in the industry is but without preceding failures. His journey in Nollywood can be described as being checkered in nature. He relocated to Nigeria from the States in 2010 and ventured into the acting career afterward. He started as a producer with Rebirth as his first-ever produced movie. This movie received little to no attention, which he himself admits was a result of a lack of experience and adequate support. Afterward, he started his own record label Diesel Music and signed a few artists. This record label crashed after three years and he started all over again.

Fortunately for him, the megahit movie picture-perfect brought him back upon his feet after taking a major role as “Jobe” in the movie. He acted alongside Mary Njoku who acted as Kumbi and Bisola Aiyeola as Kiksy. According to him, the character Jobe is what God has used to bless him with acceptance and accolades in the industry.

Joseph Benjamin was birthed on the 9th of November 1976. His father is from Kogi State while his mother from Anambra State. Although he was raised by his grandfather who was a foreigner and travels across the country from time to time. He completed his primary and Secondary Education in Benue State after which he proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, and obtained a Diploma in Computer IT. After some years he furthered by attending the University of Ibadan and studied Philosophy.

Joseph Benjamin can be described as an actor with outstanding qualities. He is a calm, good looking charismatic and fitness personified actor who likes to keep his life private. His acting prowess over the years is commendable and evident in the top-notch movies and series he took part in; they include Tango with me, Beyond Blood, Edge of Paradise Murder of Prime Suite among others. Aside from his acting ingenuity, he is a born singer and a voice-over artist whose voice can be likened to that of the nightingale. Joseph Benjamin is equally a TV presenter who is famous for co-hosting the MTN Project Fame for three (3) consecutive seasons now.

It is important to mention that he started acting as a child at age 12 where he took part in the popular TV program Tales By Moonlight on NTA.  After several years he starred in his first Nollywood movie titled Crossroads in 1991.

When the name Wole Ojo is mentioned the first thing that comes to mind is the winner of the fourth edition of the Amstel Malta Box Office Show. Adewole Ojo popularly known as Wole Ojo can be described as handsome and dark in completion. He was born on the 6th of June 1984 in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The born actor started professionally at the age of nine. He has featured in different teenage movie programs in his early days. These include Kiddies Vision 101, aired on NTA, One Big Family, and so on. After his Secondary Education, he proceeded to the University of Lagos and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts. It is equally expedient to note that he had his debut at age 11 in a Commemoration of Children day celebration at the Nigerian Institute of Children Affairs sponsored by UNICEF.

In an interview with Punch Newspaper, Wole Ojo asserted that the movie Maami produced and directed by Tunde Kelani in the year 2011 brought him into the limelight in the Yoruba movie scene. He is an actor who believes in hard work and equally has the conviction that he has been stretched to a point that he can take any role assigned to him.   1. This is the most gratifying Top Actors list I have ever come across. Seeing my Nollywood idol FREDERICK LEONARD at the very top there makes me very happy. Apart from outstanding TALENT, FASHION SENSE and overall handsomeness, I have yet to witness the following extra unique/unmatched qualities of Freddie:
    – Extremely strong vocals-ever since he started acting in 2001
    – Ability to act out long continuous talk scenes -esp when apologizing to ladies
    – Hearty, disarming laughter
    – Brightest smile ever
    – Emotional, shaky voice
    – Hairstyle and beardcut so unique and immaculate
    – Customized expressions that I’m yet to hear from anyone else e.g ” Flesh in the right places” plus a special way he utters “How could you”? when disappointed with a “spouse”.
