10-year-old boy tortured to death by a soldier in Kaduna for plucking mangoes in Barracks

A 10-year-old boy was tortured to death by a Nigerian soldier at Hayin Banki, Kaduna North Local Government.

Daily Trust reports that the boy went into Kotoko Barracks which s a boundary with the community to pluck mangos from a tree.

He was caught by the soldier but somehow managed to escape but the soldier followed him back to his community and eventually detained him in the army barracks. He was tortured by the soldier whose colleagues even warned him to release the boy but he refused until the boy eventually died.

The traditional leader of the community, the Sardauna of Hayin Banki, Malam Ibrahim Hassan Wuyo said;

The boy who bears the name Muslim went into the Kotoko Barracks which shares a boundary with the Hayin Banki community to pluck mangos from a tree. The soldier queried why the boy came into the barracks and the boy was able to run away. The soldier then traced the boy back to the community; he took him back to the barracks and detained him. I was told that while he was torturing the boy, other colleagues warned him to release the boy but he refused.

According to the Sardauna of Hayin Banki, when the boy died, the soldier threw his body at Unguwan Kanawa community. Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige confirmed the incident and stated that the soldier has been arrested and will be investigated
