22-year-old man arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his married cousin
Police operatives in Dedza, Malawi have apprehended a 22-year-old man on the allegation that he tried to rape his 24-year-old married cousin.
The young man known as Sitifano Yosefi is from Chimpikizo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza in Dedza District.
The Dedza police deputy Publicist, Sergeant Cassim Manda, said that on October 10, 2021, around 21:00 hours, his cousin went to bed after she got tired of waiting for her husband who was not at home that night.
While she was sleeping, she felt that someone was caressing her body, initially, she thought it was a dream but she later realized it was in reality and someone was rubbing her body.
She identified the person to be Sitifano, her aunt’s son, and she told him the act was an abomination but he insisted that he wanted to have sex with her.
Immediately, she held him tightly and shouted for help but Sitifano overpowered her and ran away.
The woman reported the matter to village headman Chimpikizo who called Sitifano but later involved the police because he couldn’t handle the matter and they arrested Sitifano for indecent assault.
A preliminary police investigation has also shown that early this year Sitifano was also caught attempting to sexually abuse his biological sister but the case was not reported to police after elders of the family sorted it out.
