Ezra Onozutua who is professionally known as Northboi or Northboi The Oracle is a Nigerian record producer. He was born on the 4th of April, 1993, and hails from Kogi State.

He was born in Kano State, the Northern part of Nigeria where he spent the first twelve years of his life. He has also lived in other Northern states in Nigeria including Abuja, Bauchi, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Jos and that’s why his stage name is Northboi.

Career

During his childhood days in school, his friends normally call him up to drum on the table whenever they wanted to sing and his classmates were impressed by his skill.

A friend later informed him that he could make beats with a software and he uninterested up until his friend starting making beats right before him with the software. He decided to give it a try and made a beat that same day.

His parents didn’t welcome the idea of him going into music and wanted him to just go to school. At the age of 22 (In 2015), his relationship with his father went sour as they had a misunderstanding and he had to relocate to Lokoja, Kogi State, to stay with his elder brother anytime his school is on holiday. The following year, 2016, when he was in 300 Level (3rd Year), he dropped out of school and relocated to Lagos permanently to focus on his music production career. He rented a studio in Ikeja which was owned by Adex, from the Ikeja studio he moved to a studio in Agungi, Lekki, then later moved to a studio in Lakowe and he is currently on his own.

He also participated in the competition “Kill My Beat” which was organized by Frizzle and Bizzle Films in January 2018. The grand prize for the competition was a brand new car and N2.5 million. Northboi came third in the competition and he rejected the third runner-up prize as he felt he was better than the winner and the second runner-up.

His breakthrough came after he reached out to Ceeza Milli online through DM. They later linked up and made the record ‘Konfidential Love’. He later sent the beat/instrumental of Soco to Ceeza Milli who then later freestyled on the beat. Ceeza Milli linked up with Wizkid and while playing some of his songs for Wizkid, played Soco beat and the instrumental, and Wizkid loved the beat and called him up. The song ‘Soco’ eventually became the biggest Nigerian song in its year of release. Northboi and Wizkid made more hit records like ‘Fever’, ‘Joro’, ‘Gucci Snake’. His relationship with Wizkid hit rock bottom after he granted series of interviews, accusing Wizkid of reluctance in payment for beats (Watch the interviews Here). 

He has since worked with other producers like Mayorkun on ‘Posh’ and he was on Beyoncé’s album ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ on the track ‘Keys To The Kingdom’.

He released his debut album (all tracks are just instrumentals, no vocals), Spirit Business 1 on the 24th of April 2020.
