1. LINDA IKEJI

The Nigerian influential blogger Linda Ikeji who revolutionalized blogging in Nigeria and Africa and has been awarded Doctorate degrees for her exceptional work in the blogosphere is Nigeria’s top female blogger. She has topped the chart for most influential Nigerian bloggers for over half a decade and has grown from the blogosphere into media with her TV  show which is named after her. Linda Ikeji had always wanted to be a journalist but she started out as a model and was a fashion model and photography model for 8 years but had too quit at 25 due to her age, she felt she had to leave the job for the young ones. At the end of her modeling career, going back to become a journalist was a difficult task for her as she was already known by many as a model.

Her love and desire for blogging kicked-in in the year 2006 after the Nigerian blog – Bellanaija wrote an article about her and her friend sent her the link to the article. After perusing the article and going through the content of the website, she fell in love with the blog and started visiting the blog every day. This inspired her to create her own blog that same year and she ran the blog for four years without making money off it.

She never really thought she could make money from blogging but her passion kept her going even when there wasn’t income flowing in. In fact, she was even helping her readers to run their ads for free during the early phase of her career. But in August 2010, she got a call requesting what her advert rate was and she had absolutely no idea what that meant. She put a call through to another blogger who explained to her what it meant and also gave her a copy of his blog rate.

Since then the money just kept on coming in. According to Linda Ikeji, the best days of her blog was when she helped a guy named Oke to travel to India for Kidney transplant. She posted about Oke’s condition on her blog and it got the attention of someone from the Delta State Government house and he was able to get the treatment he needed. Linda has also had her fair share of backlash from other celebrities due to the content of her blog. She had issues with RMD, Toke Makinwa, Wizkid, and many others. Her story is a justification for the fact that passion, dedication, and hard work pays.
