Davido Sampled Oritse Femi’s song in his song ‘Return’

Apart from controversy and baby mama issues, one other issue that has plagued Davido’s career is sourcing song lyrics externally. Unlike in other parts of the world where hiring songwriters is a norm, Nigerians quickly write off an artist as ‘untalented’ when they discover that they don’t compose their own songs.

On the 3rd of February 2015, Oritse Femi released the single “Debe Confirm” which featured Davido, B-Red, and Oluwaseun and the song was also on Oritse Femi’s album ‘Money Stop Nonsense’. Over a year later, on the 21st of October 2016, Davido released the EP ‘Son Of Mercy’, a 5-track EP and on the 4th song ‘Return’, Davido sampled Oritse Femi’s verse on Debe Confirm. We have no information on whether Davido obtained clearance before releasing the song but there has since been no complaint from Oritse Femi or his team.
