Ibrahim Attahiru is the Chief of Army Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a Major General.
He was born on the 10th of August, 1966, and hails from Kaduna State. He was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 26th of January, 2021.
He is from Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State and a member of the Regular Course 35 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Career
After graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Ibrahim Attahiru was General Officer Commanding 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu.
Before he was redeployed in 2017, He was the commander of the Lafiya Dole operation, the operation is the fight against militant Islamist group Boko Haram.
In 2017, he was ordered by Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Burutai, the then Chief of Army Staff, to destroy Boko Haram and capture Abubakar Shekau, the leader dead or alive. He failed the mission and was removed from his post and was replaced with Nicholas Rogers.
In October 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and on the 26th of January, 2021, he was appointed as Chief of Army Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari.
