Laide Bakare is a Nigerian actress and movie producer. She was born on the 7th of October, 1980 and hails from Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Education

Laide Bakare graduated from the University of Lagos where she got a degree in History and Strategic Study. She also holds a Diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Career

Laide Bakare made her first stage appearance at the age of 19 while she was in her second year at the University.

She made her nollywood debut in the year 1999 in a movie titled ‘Adeyemi’ that was produced by Muka Ray. Laide’s parent gave her all the support she needed when she was started out in the industry. She got her first acting gig through her father who owns a hotel where movie actors lodge.

She said;

I never planned to go into acting. At a point I thought about going into politics, but I don’t like Nigerian politics. My father owns a hotel and movie people used to come and shoot in the hotel. So, anytime they needed help, I was the one providing it for them. Among my father`s children, I was the only one that was assisting them. Then, I was a teenager, about 16 years old and was about to go to University of Ibadan to study Theatre Arts, most of them encouraged me to start acting while I was still in school.

Her mother used to cook for her on locations while her father bought her the camera she used for her first production work.

Her acting talent immediately became apparent and she landed even more acting roles and she has since starred in numerous Nigerian movies. Laide is also a movie producer who has produced her own films like Adun ewuro & Mi’ ofoworola.

Laide Bakare who loves music too went on to launch her own record label in 2018 named Simline Records with the aim of supporting talented singers. When asked the motivation for starting the record label, she said “The company is borne out of my love for music and the arts. My interest is solely to help identity, grow and support talented youths.”

In February 2024, she was appointed as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Entertainment, Arts, Culture and Tourism.

The elated actress took to Instagram to celebrate her new appointment sharing a photo of her and the governor and promised to deliver. She wrote;

Now an Honourable ya Allah I am grateful .

To my new boss, Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke Imole Osun. Thank you so much for the trust and opportunity to serve. I promise to deliver my best. So help me God Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun state on Entertainment, Arts, Culture and Tourism.

Lots of work to be done. Shall we? the entire good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large. It’s actually a new dawn for me starting my political career from here. God bless Nigeria.

Awards

In 2012, Laide won BON Awarda for best costume in the movie ‘JEJERE’. In 2014, she won the Best Actress in a Lead Role at the City People Entertainment Award.

Personal Life

Laide was initially in a relationship with Olumide Okufulire and they were so close that everyone thought they were married. Laide and Olumide have a daughter together named Simi who was born in 2008. After Laide and Olumide broke up, she revealed in an interview that they were never married.

She said;

People will always write negative things about me, I know but I’m used to it. However, let me clear the air on this issue once and for all, I don’t have a former husband. I was never married to Okufulire. All that happened between was a relationship which produced a daughter and it didn’t eventually work out well. We were never married at all

Laide later Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo in Saudi Arabia and he liked her and tried to woo her then but at the time she wasn’t ready for marriage. He kept on trying and eventually, they got married in 2012 and have two boys together.

The marriage hit rock buttom in 2014 when her then-husband was alleged to be involved in fradulent activities and was declared wanted by the EFCC. Laide and Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo got divorced in 2014.

In 2023, she gave love yet another chance and got married again to Mr. Akande Jimmy Roland.
