Tyla Laura Seethal who is simply known as Tyla is a South African singer, songwriter, and dancer. She was born on the 30th of January, 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In 2019, Tyla matriculated from Edenglen High School and in that year, she was the head of culture.
Career
Tyla made her professional music debut in 2019 with her debut single ‘Getting Late’ featuring South African record producer/DJ, KoolDrink. Her debut song was an instant hit and eventually led to her signing a record deal with Epic Records through a joint venture with Fax Records in the U.S.
The music video for her debut single ‘Getting Late’ was nominated for the Music Video of the Year at the 28th South African Music Awards in 2022 but lost the award to the music video for Ghanama by Makhadzi featuring Prince Benza. Tyla followed up the success of ‘Getting Late’ with two more impressive records ‘Overdue’ featuring DJ Lag & Kooldrink and To Last.
The year 2023 was an even better year for the songstress. She started the year with the song ‘Been Thinking’ and her first performance for the year was at the Milan Fashion Week. She joined global superstar Chris Brown on stage at the Under the Influence Tour in Europe & UK which kicked off on February 14, 2023, at the O2 Arena and ended in Paris on March 26, 2023.
On the 11th of May, 2023, she released her 2nd single for the year. The song is titled ‘Girl Next Door’ featuring Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayra Starr. On the 28th of July, 2023, she released her career’s biggest song so far ‘Water’. The song had a dance challenge on TikTok that went viral with over 600,000 videos made with the song.
The song ‘Water’ debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 67, making it the highest debut on the chart by an African artist, and also the first South African solo song to appear on the chart since the jazz legend, Hugh Masekela’s Grazing in the Grass 55 years ago. The song also made it to the top 10 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, the Hot Singles Chart in New Zealand, and the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.
In October 2023, Tyla became the first South African artist to hit 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
