Victoria James who is popularly known as Veekee James is a Nigerian fashion designer, gospel musician, makeup artist, social media personality, and businesswoman.
She was born on the 26th of June, 1996, in Ajegunle, Lagos State, Nigeria, and hails from Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria.
Education
Veekee James completed her Primary and Secondary School Education in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Upon completing her Secondary School education, she enrolled in the University of Uyo to study Biochemistry but eventually dropped out to pursue a career in fashion.
Career
Veekee James is the only daughter of her mother and her mother, Mrs. Esther James was a tailor who had workers. Growing up around fashion from a young age, she naturally started getting involved in fashion from a young age and would hang around her mother’s workers and admire their work. While in Secondary school, she used to sow clothes for her friends for free.
Her career plan wasn’t to go into fashion as she considered it something she does for fun and because her mother was into it.
She planned to become a Biochemist and she secured admission into the University of Uyo to study Biochemistry but her love for fashion outweighed her passion for Biochemistry and she dropped out of school to pursue a career in fashion. She started her clothing brand named Veekee James which has grown to become one of the biggest fashion brands in Nigeria with celebrity clients and over a million followers on Instagram. The brand is over five years old now.
She is also a gospel singer and songwriter, she released her debut gospel song on the 12th of May, 2023 titled ‘Nothing Less!’ and on the 29th of September, 2023, she released her second single titled OLÙGBÈJÀ (Defender) featuring Shallow Matthew and OBA.
Personal Life
Veekee James is a happily married woman. She is married to Femi Atere, the CEO of Mr Tidy Nigeria, a premium cleaning service.
Femi Atere proposed to her in November 2023. On Thursday, February 8, 2024, they had their traditional wedding and on Saturday, February 10, 2023, they had their white wedding.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Veekee James revealed that before meeting her husband, she dated men who were intimidated by her success.
Veekee James lost her father, Mr. James at the age of 5 and she alongside her brothers were singlehandedly raised by her mother, Mrs. Esther James. Her mother was a tailor from the Ibibio tribe and she had three children, Veekee James, and two sons.
Controversy
During her wedding, she had a passionate worship session where she alongside a choir passionately sang her song ‘OLÙGBÈJÀ’ and people believed that she was pretending and overacting, in a bid to get attention online and appear to be a religious person. She was ridiculed online for her enthusiastic performance on her wedding day by netizens, including Nigerian singer, Chike.
