Young Jonn – Disconnect Lyrics Translation and Explanation

Chocolate City Music producer, singer, and songwriter Young Jonn has just released two new songs ‘Disconnect’ and ‘Go Hard’. Both songs are from his forthcoming debut album ‘Stay Jiggy’.

The song ‘Disconnect’ was recorded in Yoruba Language and also Nigerian pidgin and in this post I’ll be translating/converting the Yoruba and pidgin part into the English language and I’ll also be giving some explanation of the song’s lyrics.

The song was produced by DJ Tunez and Spiritual Vibes.

Ise kekere owo nla
(Small work, big money)
Loke loke la ma ma lo
(Higher higher/up up we shall continue to go)
Blessings on blessings mofe mari lojojumo
(Blessings on blessings I want to see everyday)
If you get a woman, make you hold am tight
(If you have a woman, hold her tight)
Cause if she come my side, it’s gone
(Because if she comes to my side, it’s gone/she’s no longer yours)

“Ise kekere owo nla”

Like some people will say ‘This life no balance’ meaning life isn’t fair and truly to some people, life isn’t fair. There are people who work so hard and yet get paid so little (when compared to the work they put in). We have seen people who work at sites/uncompleted buildings, factories and more get paid less than some people who sit at their home and work for just a few minutes on their laptop or at their office. Young Jonn is saying here that he belongs to the category of people that works little but earns so much.

“If you get a woman, make you hold am tight. Cause if she come my side, it’s gone”

Young Jonn is sending out a friendly warning here to guys out there who are in love and still want to retain their relationship. He’s saying, if you have a woman, make sure you guard here well and hold on to your relationship/lover. Don’t allow her into my world. Cause if she hangs out with me, she is no longer your girl.

Nobody worry me jor
(No one is worrying me/no one is stressing me out)

Jor means please in Yoruba language but can also be used for emphasis or exclamation in Nigerian pidgin. Like Come Here Jor meaning come here now, the Jor there being an exclamation.

I want to jaiye yi tan
(I want to enjoy this life)
Damn drip Louis voulton
Mofe Ra helicopter Gan ni
(I want to buy a helicopter)
Shout out to my mummy

(Young Jonn always giving a shout out to his mum 😄)

Young forever lomo na
(Young forever baby)
The only thing I want is cash

(The only thing I want is cash and peace/peace of mind)

Disconnect
Me I don disconnect
(I have disconnected)
Anybody wey no align

(Haters/jealous people stay one side)
I dey thank God I survive
(I am thanking God that I survived)

Moti disconnect
(I have disconnected)
Me I don disconnect
(Me, I have disconnected)
Anybody wey no align
(Anybody that hasn’t aligned or that isn’t on my side)
Badbelle dey one side
I dey thank God I survive

Survival of the fittest
I can never be defeated (oshe)
Oju mi ri many
(My eyes say many/plenty)
Oju mi ri many Oshey
(My eyes saw many. Thanks)

(Meaning he witnessed or went through a lot of hard times. Oshe mean thank you is Yoruba but in context like this, it is usually just an adlib with no direct meaning)

Better days ahead
Better days ahead
Better days ahead
Better days ahead
Jiggy
(Jiggy is Young Jonn’s favorite slang and even his forthcoming debut debut album is titled ‘Stay Jiggy’. The slang means solid or firm. Remember the song ‘Jiggy Jiggy, heavy heavy, baby do you want me?’ by Osita Iheme that was sampled by Davido in Assurance. Osita Iheme was singing for an overweighted lady who he was trying to woo. Calling her a firm, and endowed lady).

Nobody worry me joor

I want to jaiye i tan
(I want to enjoy this life)
