The Nigerian Super Eagles gave Nigerians a reason to smile and be happy once again at the 2024 AFCON after they knocked out South Africa in the semi-finals.
The Super Eagles scored first in the 67th minute from a penalty kick which the caption W. Troost-Ekong converted and gave Nigeria the lead but South Africa equalized in the 90th minute from a penalty kick which T. Mokoena converted and took the match to extra time.
Nigeria eventually won on penalties and advanced to the final. The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima was present at the stadium and watched the match. After the victorious match, he went into the dressing room to await the players and celebrate with them and as seen in new videos making rounds online, the players hugged and celebrated with Nigerian football legends Nwankwo Kanu and Jay Jay Okocha as they entered the dressing room but ignored the Vice President.
