A viral video on social media has shown the moment armed robbers broke into a church and robbed both the pastor and members of the church while service was going on.

The incident happened in Johannesburg, South Africa at the Ghanaian Church of Pentecost. As the deacon was preaching, men armed with pistols barged into the church, forcing the church members and the deacon to lie on the floor while they proceeded to take away their phones and valuables.

After robbing members of the church, they approached the pastor and made him take them to where the church’s money was being kept at gunpoint and afterward, they left with the deacon to an unknown location.

The Ghanaian High Commission in Pretoria has reacted to the incident, expressing worry over the incident in a new statement.

The statement reads:

The attention of the High Commission of the Republic of Ghana has been drawn to an incident in which members of the congregation of the Johannesburg branch of the Ghanaian Church of Pentecost were robbed of their valuables at gunpoint and a Deacon of the church kidnapped during church service.”

The Mission is presently working with the Church in cooperation with the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) to ensure the speedy and safe release and return of the victim to his family. Kindly note that the South African Police is fully focused on the matter and is working hard to ensure the safe return of our compatriots.

Mission wishes to advise all members of the Ghanaian community to take necessary/precautions to ensure their safety and well-being and will update the Community of any further developments related to the case
