Owodunni Ibrahim who is popularly known as Primeboy is a Nigerian musician, talent manager, and businessman.

He was born in the year 1995 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, and hails from Ogun State, Nigeria.

Primeboy became known due to his affiliation with Naira Marley’s Marlian Music and his relationship with the late former Marlian Music rapper, Mohbad who was his childhood friend.

Career

With his childhood friend, Mohbad becoming successful in the Nigerian music industry and also with him getting a bit closer to Marlian Music, Prime Boy decided to give music a try.

In June 2020, less than a year after Mohbad got signed to Marlian Music, he made his music debut with the record ‘Lucky To Have You’ and the following month, in July 2020, he released his second single ‘When’.

The following year, on the 29th of April 2021, Prime Boy released his debut music project, an EP titled Prime Time. The EP has six songs, Fado, Wanyoma, Suru, Man Chery, Japa, and Free Me.

After the death of his childhood friend Mohbad, he released a tribute song titled ‘Tribute To Mohbad’ on the 25th of September, 2023.

Controversy

Prime Boy became very famous after the death of his childhood friend, Mohbad. After Mohbad’s death, there were many theories by Nigerians on what could have led to the death of Mohbad and some Nigerians were of the opinion that Prime Boy had a hand in the death of his friend as Prime Boy was seen with Mohbad during his last show in Ikorodu.

Prime Boy made a video debunking the rumors and stated that Mohbad is a very good friend of his from when they were kids and had no reason to murder the rapper.

What started as a rumor started to gain traction after the police invited Prime Boy during the investigation of Mohbad’s death and Prime Boy didn’t honor the invitation. Other suspects like Sam Larry and Naira Marley honored the police invitation and were taken into custody but Prime Boy didn’t honor the invitation and he was eventually declared wanted by the Nigerian Police.

Primeboy later turned himself in to the police on the 5th of October, 2023 and while arriving at the police station, he said that he was being framed by Mohbad’s wife.

Primeboy was later released on bail in December 2023 and asked to register his presence at the SCID (State Criminal Investigation Department) every week since the commencement of the investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of singer, Mohbad.

As instructed, he kept on visiting the SCID, and on the 12th of March, 2024, Primeboy and another witness Ayobami Fisayo aka Spending, showed up at the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti, Yaba, and they were both detained. However, Spending was released the same day while Primeboy was still held in custody.
